Remembering Sammy...

6 years ago, on 7 Aug 2002, we became first time parents. Happy and joyous! For 5 hours. The next 4.5 days were the toughest days we've ever been through. Because our boy was slipping away from us. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Jo went into the delivery room and gave birth to Samuel Goh Yi En. This was after 8 rounds of artificial injection of water into her womb spread over 4 months, because for unknown reasons the water in the womb kept "disappearing" and decreasing. Sammy came into this world fighting for his life. Under-developed lungs and kidneys. His chances for survival were slim. Each day we dreaded what the doctors would tell us. He lived for 5 days. A courageous 5 days. And was ushered into God's presence. We still remember him fondly. And this year is no exception.

I went to his niche at Choa Chu Kang Columnbarium 3 days ago and took time simply to remember him. His niche is the rare one among all the rest... because there is no picture of him. Yet his 5 days of fight for survival will be indelibly etched in our minds and our hearts. Sammy would be 6 years old today if he's still with us. Click on the title to get the newsletter about him.

A church friend recently sent us an email about the story of another little boy. And I feel it resembles Sammy's life in some way. It helps us to remember him... He was and still is our inspiration for the rest of this journey.

Samuel was such an inspiration to us. I remember at his memorial service at Mandai, feeling a great sense of responsibility to fight to make my own journey one worthy of this time I've been given. Thanks Ben for reminding me of that. and posting that other inspiring story of the boy in the video.

May we all live every second we've been given in a worthy manner.
